Just Like That

I don't know what she said but I saw how she said it
He shrugged his shoulders looked at her said just forget it
He turned and walked away from her she walked towards me
We've never met but I know I have her sympathy
I've been there before and I'll be there again
I'd do anything to be like her 'cause
I want to be just like that
I want to feel greed
I want to have a heart that bleeds
And I want to lose someone that I really need
I want to be someone in danger
I want to be somebody's stranger

I see him on the stage with the guitar he's playing
No one cares that they can't hear a word he's saying
The song ends and the crowd erupts into applause
He sees the effect and he knows who's the cause
I've been there before and I'll be there again
I'd do anything to be like him 'cause
I want to be just like that
I want to sing loud
I want to move a moving crowd
And I don't want them to hear any other sound
I want to be someone who dances
I want to write songs like Black Francis

And I want to be anyone at all
Just as long as it's not me
I've been watching all of them for long enough
It's time that I'm the one they see

I stand in line behind her at the corner store
She picks up a paper drops it on the floor
She bends to pick it up and drops a dozen eggs
She curses loudly as yolk splatters on her legs
I've been there before and I'll be there again
I'd do anything to be like her 'cause
I want to be just like that
I want to be mad
I want to be a step past sad
And I want to lose something that I needed bad
Something that I wanted but I didn't know that I had
And now it's gone forever and I'm never going to see it
and it makes me glad 'cause
I want to be someone with feelings
I want to have wounds worth healing
